Senior Technology Leader – Additive Manufacturing

The company, a global leader in advancing technologies and innovation, is currently seeking a Senior Additive Manufacturing (AM) Technical Leader. This position is integral to the development and coordination of strategies for cutting-edge technology innovations that address market needs in the AM sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Business Development Directors to assess and anticipate market technology needs.
- Develop technology roadmaps and execute strategies using internal and external resources.
- Lead the development of externally funded and internal R&D projects for industry-altering technology innovations.
- Engage in technical dialogue with customers, identifying and maturing project opportunities.
- Act as the principal investigator on large programs advancing AM technologies.
- Participate actively in the Additive Manufacturing Consortium, influencing research topics.
- Write proposals meeting clients’ technical needs and providing clear value propositions.
- Serve as the business development liaison for key accounts within the AM technical expertise area.
- Promote technical capabilities through publications, conferences, committees, and marketing content.
- Influence the technical and financial health of the core technology team by positioning it as a thought leader.
- Develop a strong project pipeline to ensure technology sustainability.
- Assist Engineering Managers in selecting, developing, and directing engineering talent.
- Mentor and develop the technical and communication skills of less experienced staff.
- Develop equipment manufacturer partnerships to expand in-house technical offerings.
- Provide technical oversight during project execution, ensuring appropriate approaches and quality of deliverables.
- Prepare client reports and present project results for larger or more visible projects.
- Stay current with industry trends and technical advancements.
Minimum Requirements:
- Well-established, industry-recognized knowledge and expertise in Additive Manufacturing.
- Proficiency in executing scientific research and performing experimental analysis.
- Basic metallurgical knowledge of carbon steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and nickel-based alloys.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with internal and external customers.
- Proven adaptability, creativity, and initiative within assigned project work.
- Analytical thinking with an understanding of the impact of individual contributions on project financial performance.
- Success in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong planning and organizational skills.
- Passion for AM processing in manufacturing.
- Willingness to travel (25%) to customer sites and conferences.
Education:
- M.S. in Material Science Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Welding Engineering, or related field.
Experience:
- Fifteen (15) years of industrial or R&D experience, with at least five (5) years in the Additive Manufacturing field.
