Job Title: Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer
Where: Ontario, Canada
Salary: $100k – $120k
A leading company in materials science, specializing in the production of ultra-high-performance metal powders that enable cutting-edge additive manufacturing technologies, is hiring a Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer to join the team.
Role Overview: The Senior Electrical and Controls Engineer will be responsible for specifying, installing, testing, and optimizing control and automation systems to support the technology roll out. This role may also involve providing on-call support to troubleshoot and resolve issues outside of regular working hours, including weekends.
Key Responsibilities:
- Specify, install, test, and optimize control and automation systems.
- Provide on-call support for after-hours issue resolution as needed.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and codes.
Candidate Profile: The ideal candidate will be a proactive, self-driven professional with a comprehensive technical skill set and a solid understanding of various control systems and software.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control, or Automation and Instrumentation.
- 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in designing, installing, commissioning, and troubleshooting industrial controls, electromechanical systems, and facility equipment.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with relevant regulations and codes (e.g., UL, CE, CSA, CEC, NFPA, OHSA).
- Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) such as Allen-Bradley and Omron
- PLC programming software and networking systems (e.g., Ethernet I/P, DeviceNet, Profibus, ControlNet)
- Supervisory systems (SCADA) like Wonderware, Indusoft, Allen-Bradley
- Motion controllers/actuators
- Power distribution and electro-mechanical power control
- Metrology, including level sensing and vision systems
- Development of user interfaces (UI) through human-machine interface (HMI) and other industrial solutions (e.g., FactoryTalk)
- Design and application of fluid power systems (hydraulic, pneumatic, vacuum)
- Control of various industrial process components (e.g., valves, sensors, flow controllers, blowers, pumps)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Professional designation or eligibility to obtain one.
- Experience or knowledge in powder processing, petrochemical, and materials science.
- Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, problem-solving startup environment.
- Experience with production ramp-up and working within a quality management framework.
