Position Overview:
The Assembly Supervisor role, based in Buffalo, NY, is responsible for providing effective leadership, supervision, and coordination within the assembly department. This includes overseeing mechanical and electrical assembly, paint, and packing operations. The primary objective is to achieve optimal levels of productivity while adhering to world-class manufacturing principles, such as lean and 5S applications.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain production schedules, estimating material and standard hour requirements.
- Implement world-class manufacturing principles, including lean and 5S applications.
- Analyze and resolve work problems, ensuring a smooth workflow.
- Maintain daily time and attendance records using ERP LN, including overtime and vacation scheduling.
- Schedule production needs to meet delivery dates and maximize efficiency.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and product quality.
- Interpret company policies, safety regulations, and enforce rules.
- Inspect products to ensure conformance to specifications and oversee machine adjustments.
- Foster fair and equitable relations with the Union and its representatives.
- Propose changes to working conditions and equipment use to increase efficiency.
- Initiate plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
- Coordinate activities with other supervisors and participate in the interview and selection process for candidates.
Qualifications:
- Holds a Two (2) year Associates Degree in Engineering or Technical Discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Brings 3-5 years of previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing/unionized environment.
Interpersonal Skills:
- Demonstrates strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Exhibits effective verbal and written communication skills, fostering collaboration and interaction with others.
- Prioritizes safety in all aspects.
Technical Skills/Special Requirements:
- Previous experience coordinating the implementation and maintenance of lean and 5S principles is essential.
- Safety-conscious with proficiency in verbal and written communication, collaborating effectively with others.
- Availability for overtime and off-shift requirements as determined by production needs.
- Demonstrates effective utilization of MRP business operating systems (ERP LN) and other related computer programs (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel).
- Familiarization with metal forming equipment is desired, with the ability to read/interpret machine shop and assembly-related drawings.
- Experience with electrical safety and heavy equipment rigging.
- Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment on a daily basis.
- Occasional lifting requirements, up to approximately 50 pounds.
