Job Title: Applications Engineer

This company specializes in manufacturing highly flexible, multifunctional CNC milling, turning, and boring machines. These advanced machining centers are widely used by leading manufacturers in the aerospace, defense, energy, engine, printing, oil and gas, and engineering industries for producing highly complex components.
This role involves qualification and runoff of new machines, development and testing of new cutting sequences, production support, and customer training on multifunction CNC machines at customer sites throughout the United States. Residency in MI is preferred but not required.
Hard Skills:

Experience with CAD/CAM programming for multi-axis, multi-function machine tools, as well as a strong understanding of macro and manual programming

In-depth knowledge of CNC machine functionality, workholding principles, and tool setup

Extensive experience in applied metal cutting techniques such as turning, milling, and drilling
-
Familiarity with the Sinumerik 840D control system
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Program and troubleshoot complex mill-turn parts across various industries using advanced CNC technology

Collaborate with customers and the applications department at headquarters on machining process-related topics

Perform cycle time calculations and create process sequence charts

Travel extensively to customer sites across the U.S., with occasional assignments in Canada
-
Conduct machine qualification and runoff, develop and test new cutting sequences, provide production support, and train customer personnel on programming and operating multifunction CNC machines
Soft Skills:

Excellent planning and time management skills

Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively engage with customers and internal teams

Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel)

Prior experience working with multi-function CNC metal cutting machines preferred
Physical Requirements:

Ability to work in industrial plant environments, which may involve exposure to heat, cold, noise, and dust

Willingness to travel extensively within the U.S., as well as occasionally to Canada, Mexico, and Austria
-
Availability to work weekends and holidays as necessary, with extended hours required to meet customer demands

Flexibility to accommodate schedule changes as needed to align with customer requirements
Experience and Abilities:
-
Hands-on experience setting up and operating multi-axis, multi-function mill-turn machines
-
Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex 2D part drawings and 3D models

Familiarity with the 840D control system

Experience in CAD/CAM and CNC simulation preferred

Strong understanding of G&M code
-
Customer-focused and service-oriented mindset

Ability to analyze problems, collect data, and draw logical conclusions

Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
-
Valid U.S. passport and clean background (required for access to government-related facilities)
Educational Requirements:

Three-year technical degree or five years of experience in process development and programming of multi-axis, multi-function CNC metal cutting machines
Language Skills:

Proficiency in English (verbal and written)

Knowledge of German or Spanish is a plus but not required
